Special Telegram to the Dispatch from Wasurxeror reports November 19 that the President intends to appoint Goodloe’s widow to succeed him as Collector of Internal Revenue in Lexington. Other candidates were considered. The move follows the late colonel’s service and local interest in the appointment.
The Civil Service Commission advised the President to prosecute members of the Old Dominion Republican League of Virginia for soliciting fees for political action among government clerks. The circular bore signatures of A. Newton as President and Brooke Smith as Secretary, with names like J. J. Visser and W. C. Elam noted among officers. A brief streetcar strike on Atlantic Avenue routes in Brooklyn disrupted service for hours. The dispute stemmed from the firing of two conductors and six drivers for joining a labor group. Police deployed 500 reserves, but by noon most cars operated normally with only a small minority failing to report.
