Columbus reports Allen Thurman says tariff reform aided Democratic success in Ohio. Officials warn results must wait for official returns. Analysts foresee a tight race for Lieutenant Governor and other statewide offices as ballots scratched and county tallies vary.
At the Bat tery D Armory session 3000 heard debates over Vice President Morton's Shoreham hotel liquor license. Miss Willard and Mrs Foster clashed as telegrams contradicted claims about licenses and Morton’s involvement. Governor St John defended Morton saying a license was issued but Morton did not run a saloon.
Mrs. T. B. Walker, president of the Minneapolis W C T U, visits the national convention and voices strong sympathy with Iowa lines of work. Chicago police raided 234 Huron Street and disrupted a counterfeit operation led by a man named Prescott. The seizure included dies stamps milling machines 900 pounds of metal and hundreds of dollars in fake coins. Prescott and three suspects were arrested while six others remain at large. Richmond November 9 The latest estimate of the next Legislature shows the Senate with 29 Democrats and 9 Republicans with two districts in doubt. In the House of Delegates Democrats lead with 13 seats, Republicans 5, and several districts still unsettled as votes are counted.
The London Lord Mayor Sir Hen Aaronteen leads a grand procession as one million people line ten miles of streets. Crowds admire the spectacular show with gilded coach, music, and emblems while a great banquet at Guildhall hosts 2,000 officials. Barnum attends despite ban on parade.
Paris exposition records show a 100 foot elevator fall injuring about eighty visitors last Sunday. Officials allegedly shielded elevator accidents and deaths during construction and after opening.
