Colonel Thomas B. Price, president of the Gazette Printing Company and Vondale farm owner, was mortally wounded by Judge John Higgins as they rode a Missouri Pacific train toward their homes. Higgins was defeated in a Democratic County Convention bid and surrendered after Price’s shooting. Price, a prominent Mason, died in Houston where Higgins also resides. a special train carried doctors and Price relatives.
In Philadelphia the Irish Parliamentary party opened its American home rule campaign before an immense crowd at the Academy of Music. The reception was elated with police aiding crowds as officials announced subscription totals expected to reach about twenty thousand dollars. Michael J. Ryan led the reception. Colonel A. K. McClure presided as telegrams from state governors were read. Speaker Dillon received an ovation before delivering a fervent plea for Ireland’s rights.
San Francisco reports Beluga arrives with news of a harpoon recovered from a whale killed in Behring Sea. The harpoon, stamped Montezuma, dates back 60 years to a New Bedford whaler later sunk at Charleston to block blockade running. The whale proved a fierce foe before its demise.
Austrian consuls in South America have been told to locate Archduke Johann Salvator who used the alias Captain John Orth. He reportedly sailed from Liverpool aboard the Janet Margarethe, of which he is owner and first officer, and may have gone overland to join the vessel after she sailed from Buenos Ayres for Valparaiso. He is 28, a bachelor.
Mayor Grant received Secretary Noble’s reply denying access to police census books. He sent Superior Kenny to Washington for a second request to copy census returns from the Second ward, arguing the situation remains unresolved.

Special Telegram to the Dispatch reports engineer Freyer launching the cigar shaped boat Cassard with many spectators. The vessel careened as blocks dropped tearing parts of the main track and masts. Tugs corrected balance then it remained afloat, with a trial run planned within days and a possible Europe voyage soon after.
Augusta Harms, 17, was arrested in Buffalo on November 6 for stealing 75 dollars from her mother to fund a planned elopement with James Kelly Littleton, a new Albany replacement during the Central strike. Littleton, linked with prior deception, aroused police suspicion as to his true intentions.
In Montgomery Alabama at 1 o'clock this morning Chief Gerald shot and killed William Cottrell of Darkeys Florida in front of the police office. Cottrell had been arrested last night for drunk and disorderly conduct and released, then challenged the chief to a duel, after which the fatal shooting followed.
This morning engineer of the Norma found Robert Griffin a boatman scalded to death inside a coal bunker on the boat. The cause and manner of death are under official inquiry.
At a Democratic event in Munniers Fallis Mass on November 6 a spark from shoofire ignited a bowl of der resulting in a fatal fire involving John A Griffin and Andrew Kerbie.
