Reports from across Ohio indicate a strong McKinley win with a 12 000 plus statewide lead and a likely Republican majority in both houses. Democrats concede defeat credit rural districts and outside help shortfalls while Hamilton county defies the trend with fewer gains.
A staff correspondent reports that the Australian ballot system shows great success overall, with slow returns from Cincinnati. By 1 a.m. 225 precincts outside Cincinnati registered Republican gains of 1,174, an average gain of about 395 per precinct, though fluctuations occurred. Old soldiers kept their word and voted Republican.
Governor-elect McKinley consolidates a large Republican majority across the state. Early returns favor McKinley with eight precincts reporting a 723 vote lead and expectations of a wide margin in villages. Supporters fill Dayton, the Western Reserve rallies, and Em pire Hall hosts Democratic HQ as both sides celebrate.
A Northern correspondent reports Chairman Hahn estimating McKinley’s plurality at 19,000 to 21,000 with a Hamilton County gain near 7,500. Western Reserve support grows. statewide precincts show Republican gains of about 1,515 as Democrats claim losses. If trends hold, McKinley’s final plurality could reach about 14,500.

Muskegum and Hancock counties also indicate Republican wins for representative seats.
Comrtneis November 3 Democrats win Columbus and Franklin county by 1200 to 1500 votes and carry all ticket except Walcott Republican who trails by about 300 in the Legislature race.
Boston dispatches show new counting law slows results but indicates Republican gains in 50 towns totaling 708 and an estimated 4,942 statewide. Governor Russell leads in cities with at least a 4,000 plurality, while Democrats claim Boston's 13,000 lead. The overall legislature outcome remains unresolved.
Returns from Philadelphia and Fayette County show Republicans winning major city posts. The total vote reached 900 from about 1,700 registered. Gregg will lead the State ticket by 269, unchanged from three off years. The constitutional amendment will likely fall short by under 100 votes. Minor officers follow the State ticket as the former vote proves unusually light.
Somerset returns show J. H. Longenecker Republican winning as President Judge by 1000 to 1200 votes over J. M. Reynolds Democrat in the Sixteene district. The Republican State ticket is forecast to carry the county by 1400 to 1600 votes.

A serious election riot erupts as two to three hundred men and boys clash near closing time in Williamsburgh. A teen pretending to be over 21 tried to vote, aided by beer and cigars, but lacked registration and was deterred from voting. Several combatants were hurt. police arrived after the fracas.
In Batterone Frank Brown the Democratic candidate for governor is said to hold a majority between 15000 and 20000 as calculated by party supporters. Democrats also claim Baltimore city ticket victory by about 5000 on average. Chicago results show a mixed outcome with about half the ticket chosen.
Franklin county elects Gregg and Morrison by about 600 votes, a sizable shift vs the Constitutional Convention result. Clearfield County appears to lean Democratic by roughly 1,000 votes as of early returns, with light overall turnout.
In Br ooxville a Republican chairman asserts Jefferson County backed the State ticket by about 40 percent, reporting a strong lead in the special county results.

Right Rev. Monsignor Thomas Preston Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of New York died at St. Ann's Church East Twelfth Street a few minutes before one this morning. Present at the death chamber were Fathers Clancy Jackson Lynch Rev Mother Veronica and Dr. Allen the attending physician. He remained conscious until shortly before his death.
