In Hacressack New Jersey on May 21 Charles Francois aged 52 of Fairview returned home and fatally shot himself in the temple after greeting his family. Agustus Laur 35 a Rutherford mason shot himself in the head after a quarrel with his wife and is reported in critical condition.
In Chattanooga on May 21 the Southern Presbyterian Assembly entered its fifth day with a lengthy session dominated by a fierce wrangle over the old evolution dispute in South Carolina. The debate continued as delegates argued for and against the heated issue.

W T Hige of Ratzion North Carolina filed in Superior Court a suit seeking penalties for 40 railroads that failed to file annual reports to the Governor. The statute, in force about 20 years, imposed a 2500 penalty per violation, with the total potential recovery up to 20000 if successful.
Paris Texas May 21 J T Ownby a lawyer and Richard Moore a young man fought a short range duel in Ownbys office. Moore was arrested and while being taken to court for preliminary exam in was shot and killed by Ownby. The murder was described as a cosy character.
Yesterday’s district conventions elected a sizable Magee majority on the county committee, seen as a victory over outside interference. Quay supporters praise a rule change they helped force, and Reed claimed readiness to end the fight at the conceded time. The Sixth District Convention ended at 1:15 P. M. with Magee leading the battle.
