Surprises Mark House Action on Mint and Silver

In Washington two notable House moves drew attention. The sundry civil bill’s mint site purchase of 620,000 dollars was struck from the measure. An attempted amendment by Bland to coin all Treasury silver bullion faced a ruling against it, with further debate and votes on silvers policy and mint funding. The Senate, led by Manderson, approved a World’s Fair appropriation condition and related foreign and domestic measures. The session also authorized a survey for a Lake Erie canal connecting with the Ohio River.
