Free Binding Twine Bill Passes Amid Apathy in Congress

In Washington on May 2 the House moved to pass the free binding twine bill with a mixed vote as Democrats showed low enthusiasm and Republicans largely abstained. The measure cleared the House 185 to 75 after suspending rules and debate, while other fiscal items and treaties received lighter scrutiny. The Senate debated Sunday closing for the World's Fair with petitions and concerns over Columbian Exposition costs and use of funds, ending the day in executive session.

McDonald Field Oil Output Slumps Amid New Wells

The McDonald field saw few new wells yesterday and sand yields were light, pushing production down to 22,000 barrels a day. Some wells like Forst & Greenlee No.2 on National Coal property reached the Gordon sand at about 100 barrels daily, while others were close to tapping fifth sand or in Gordon activity. Overall field output appears to be in decline with several wells expected to advance this week.
