Merchants Press Senators on Grade Crossing Bill

Prominent Pittsburgh and Philadelphia merchants arrived this morning to influence Senate members against reconsidering the grade crossing bill. They warned about senatorial courtesy and demanded assurances it would not be final if reconsidered. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce Maritime Exchange Grocers and Importers Exchange and other boards spoke against the bill, which the city opposes as it would hinder railroad entry. Local officials say the act of 184 provides city protection and argue legislation should not be limited to large cities. The bill was not called up for reconsideration tonight.
