Promising Fruit Crop Ahead Despite Harsh Winter

The groundhog’s poor forecast aside, fruit growers expect a strong crop as mild spells have not damaged trees. Since last fall’s deep freeze, winter has failed to awaken lilacs and no severe frosts have harmed the orchards, leaving only late frosts or drought as potential risks.

Weather note on winter friability and ground conditions

The freezing season has left ground friable while wheat and rye crops suffer less. Ground is in fine condition for summer work. The groundhog's reign ended Tuesday and some expect bluebirds to sing next week.
