Judge Ewingpresses Grand Jury as True Bill Seeks Speed

Judge Ewing criticized the grand jury for delaying work while noting they returned 15 verdicts this afternoon. Grand Jury Returns True Bills Including Wagner Murder Case

The grand jury returned true bills against Louis Wagner for murder and involuntary manslaughter after a fatal hammer blow on John Bond at McNulty's livery stable in the East End. Bond, 44, died at Mercy Hospital with a fractured skull. Other true bills involve Acres Tanker for murder of a child, and various defendants facing charges from malicious mischief to selling liquor without license. Some bills were ignored or reduced to misdemeanors.

Lease Trouble Delays Oil Land Deal in Ross Township

The Kanawha Oil Company filed a bill in equity against Mrs B Williams and J C Thompson Esquire over a ten acre oil lease in Ross Township. Williams allegedly entrusted the lease and security funds to Thompson until tenant consent was obtained. Thompson says he returned the documents to Williams who refused to lease, and the company seeks either restoration of the lease or a copy enforceable by the court.

Court sentences postal offender to one year jail

Patrick Crown pleaded guilty in the United States Court to sending obscene matter through the mails and was sentenced to one year in Lackawanna jail. Sarah Buchanan and Kate Schron were convicted previously. Brown evaded arrest as the others faced related charges. James McDonald filed a libel in admiralty in the U S District Court seeking two hundred dollars for wages and board on the steamboat Beaver.

Widow Sues Patent Medicine Vendor for Husband’s Death

Mrs. Josephine Fisher sues Charles Bower for damages in the death of Frederick Fisher. The East End vendor of patent medicines allegedly treated him for indigestion and typhoid fever, misdiagnosed the illness, and then Fisher died. The case proceeds before Judge Stowe.

Ground attacked by railroad sparks court battle in Reynoldton

A bill in equity filed yesterday by Robert B. McMasters and others, owners of a Reyneldton borough lot, seeks an injunction against the Pittsburg and Lake Erie Railway Company for laying tracks through their property without right. They allege blasting damaged houses and endangered tenants, naming numerous Common Pleas cases and parties in the action.

Westinghouse Patent Suit Sues Gas Company

In U S Circuit Court yesterday George Westinghouse Jr and Philadelphia Company sued Chartiers Valley Gas for infringement of S Verner patent for one deen and fines for nations pu Te. They deny infringement and claim the invention is not new. A separate Williams suit against Ohio and Pennsylvania Coal and Coke for injuries from a Port Royal mine explosion proceeds with allegations of inadequate ventilation and firedamp, while the defense cites miner negligence.

Lynchings murder trial closes in Whitehall Wisconsin

Rioters from nearby farms face charges as jurists consider murder in the first degree in the Olsen lynching case. The wife and son of the murdered man and Ole Sleeto testify, while about thirty others plead guilty to rioting and conspiracy. The judge rejects a lesser offense request and maintains a murder in the first degree charge.
