Brison Held on Mail Matter Charge in Pittsburgh Case

J E Brison, charged with sending illegal material through the mails, was held yesterday before US Commissioner McCandless. Mrs Sadie Marr testified to receiving the letter on January 11 and similar notes from Brison. The objectionable letter was read in evidence but not published. W C Stillwagon appeared for the defense and offered no defense. Brison was held in $300 for trial at court.

Joseph Boston, a workman at Sligo Mill Southside, had his foot crushed when a heavy iron plate fell on it. He was taken to his Molllan avenue home. Boston has suffered injuries four times since November and recently buried his wife after a long illness. He had previously been idle for over a year due to a strike at Dilworth Porter Co.’s mall.

Man Averts Suicide by Daring Swim in Allegheny River

Albert Michelmann of Canal Street Allegheny leaped from the Fr Wayne Railroad bridge into the Allegheny River yesterday morning. He swam to shore when the water proved too cold for drowning and was rescued. He confessed he attempted suicide after losing his savings in a Sunday club bet on a four against a full.

Trial of Rev. Mansell Advances on Second Day in McKeesport

The McKeesport trial of Rev. R. B. Mansell continued into a second day with a growing audience and a stenographer present. The miners convention met at Knights of Labor Hall with twenty seven delegates. Hugh McLaughlin was elected Chairman and John Craig Secretary. Brickmakers oppose wage advance and union split

Secretary Dillon of the American Flint Glass Workers' Union says the Federation of Labor will not divide a trade or absorb Knights of Labor controlled branches. Brickmakers nationwide discuss forming a separate trades union and then joining the Federation, while several manufacturers oppose the proposed 25 cent daily wage increase, noting wages rose 25 cents two years ago and no action will occur until the new scale is presented, which will not be ready for about a month.

On April 3 an application will be made to the Governor for a charter for the Southern Gas Company to supply natural gas to consumers. The incorporators are John W. Gates W. P. McCook H. we W. H. Krowe E. R. Poole and W. G. Smith. None are Pittsburgers. Gates is president of the Braddock Wire Company at Rankin station with home in St. Louis. The others are not known in the natural gas business.

Electric plant contract ties Blairsville to Thomson-Houston

Hughes and Gawthrop, agents for the Thomson-Houston Electric Co, secured a contract with Blairsville, Pa, for an electric plant. The town will be lit at once as work begins. Weihe, president of the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers, is due home from St Louis tomorrow amid resolving local labor matters.

Milk adulteration case heads to alderman hearing
