Waterprox March 10 The New Yorkers cross the first bridge as General George Batcheller of Saratoga, a Miller and Platt ally, is picked for Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and slated for nomination. The plan foresees Whitelaw Reid as Minister to England and Fred Grant to China as New York’s foreign missions allocation grows with Rice possibly heading the German mission.
Washington report outlines likely picks for Railway Mail Service head as President Harrison acts to reorganize the bureau. Paul VanDervoort of Omaha and John Jameson of New York are noted contenders. Civil Service integration and delays push timing to end of the fiscal year. Louisiana Territory Governor nominee H. C. Melfette and Montana option L. H. The Education Committee asks for the greatest sum.
A New York reporter grills Count Di Montercoli in Italian about being an impostor and reveals his passport description. The Count, visibly nervous, admits no fixed fortune and says he travels for pleasure with his wife’s plans uncertain.
New York report claims actress Lillie Langtry married Freddie Gebhardt last Tuesday after a California divorce. Officials offered no confirmation nor denial and none would comment on the rumored wedding. The tale purportedly began with Langtry's coachman’s account and men about town whispered the event.
The Rev Sidney Wilbur rector of the Church of Epiphany Suspension Bridge was tried by an ecclesiastical court and convicted of immoral conduct Bishop Coxe pronounced the sentence at Trinity Church. He had become involved with Mrs Mary Colt a widow with property leading to his resignation and remarriage in New York on June 24 1886 after divorcing his California wife.
A spring pre Lent service at Christchurch Bing ile hampton New York was halted when the organ fell silent as the bellows, driven by a water eel, was struck by an eel attack. An investigation followed into the strange disruption and the organ’s pumping mechanism from the river.
Camden preacher Rev. I W Bagley united George S Moyer of Roxborough and Lillian M Schall of Manayunk. Within 36 hours an irate groom’s elder brother E H Moyer and a friend armed with a blackjack attacked the couple, the pastor, and his muscular father-in-law George Leathwaite. The altercation ended with injuries, arrests, and charges of assault.
New York dispatch reports Secretary of the Navy Tracy crowded with visitors at his Brooklyn home on Saturday night and into Sunday. Democrats Republicans and Mugwumps called while he delayed appointments until returning to Washington. He plans office work in Garfield building then travel home in the evening. He will not move his family to Washington until fall. A Hamilton Club and Brooklyn Club visit set dates for events.
New York March 10 William Krulish, the boy charged with murder of a drug dealer, was arraigned and not accompanied by counsel as he awaited action by the grand jury.
Washington officials released replies from District charitable institutions to a Senate resolution on exclusion of persons by race or color. Responses show many institutions admit all, while several indicate they would not accept colored applicants or mix white and colored children in some facilities.

He walked to the park with the book under his arm and was found alive with the pistol ball through his head.
A ten penny nail driven into the compass box of the schooner John McManus caused its wreck on Chatham bar. The iron piece altered the compass variation by two and a half points, leading the captain to misjudge the vessel’s course.
