Building Up the Mount The Work of Building and Loan Associations

Washington and functioned as a savings source, with few foreclosures. Members could secure homes by pay structures tied to stock, with loans arranged among themselves at favorable rates. A notable example involves ex-Councilman Minsinger and David Torrens acquiring four houses via the association, funded by mortgage payments and post‑series ownership, illustrating the system’s community impact.
