Washington June 24 Special. Republicans debate the party chairmanship as Clarkson considers retirement under pressure from Harrison. The choice narrows to Clarkson or Sewall, with Clarkson potentially steering the campaign if he accepts.
The Massachusetts Democratic nominee Grover Cleveland blooms in high spirits at Buzzards Bay as delegations from Boston reach Cape Cod. Kansas City report says C N Porter, president of Ft Bend County Bank in Richmond Texas, was arrested on a charge of embezzlement with the amount unspecified. His only relation to the bank was his title and a $13,000 deposit. He traveled from Richmond two weeks ago to conduct business and claims no knowledge of the bank's condition. Vice President J Brown is named as the responsible party. City of Mexico reports the June 26 presidential election series opened quietly with Diaz noted. a final result is due July 8.
Rev Thomas Dixon Jr denounces Tammany as a band of criminals feeding on vice and crime and claims it dominates judges and juries. He argues Southern Democrats must purge Tam many from the party and warns of treachery in the New York political machine.
