Gibson Ex‑Secretary's Indictment Challenge in Federal Court
In Cuba City June 7 an effort was made in the Federal Court to quash indictments against George J. Gibson former Secretary of the Whisky Trust. Gibson's lawyers argued the charge of bribing internal revenue officer Dewar to act against his duties is invalid because blowing up a distillery is not a federal offense. The District Attorney contends Gibson violated statutes punishing bribery of government officers. Judge Blodgett took the case under advisement and will decide Monday.
