In Louisville Mrs Ellen Roberts died after a knee sore appeared days earlier and rapidly worsened. Early today she woke in severe pain as blood poured from the wound and she died before a doctor could arrive. Her husband sent for a physician but her death occurred first.
Montereaut July 22 officers of the First Connecticut National Guards the oldest regiment in the United States return home after completing arrangements for a visit to this place in нового.
James Averill and Kate Maxwell known as the Rustlers were lynched by cowboys on a Sweetwater river bank near Independence Rock in Carbon county Wyoming Territory. The postmaster and cattle queen died cursing their executioners after a bold night of thefts and raids that had troubled local stockmen.
In Alsquengus New Mexico on July 22 a sheriff and posse trapped three Mexican cattle and horse thieves after a brief battle near Kelly. The leader and a deputy were killed during the clash. Cowboys later forced the captured men from a vacant house and hanged them, the fate reported by local authorities.
A 10 year old deaf mute boy was trapped when three playmates started a bonfire in a large shed. As flames rose the door with a spring lock trapped him inside. The father tried to rescue him but was severely burned. The building became a mass of flames.

Coal fleets attempt to clear piles blocking the Ohio River while the Advance and Pacific barges ram the pile boats. conflict pits railroad aims against steamboat interests and prompts potential government intervention.
Mrs. D. F. Meissner, wife of a newsdealer, became a local heroine after preventing a New York broker, O. M. Bogert, from being crushed by a locomotive on the Northern Railroad of New Jersey. Bogert, who is deaf, wandered onto the tracks as a freight train approached. Meissner grabbed his coat collar and pulled him to safety moments before the engine passed.
Special telegram reports at Columbus July 22 that two inmates John Hill and Joseph Davis escaped from the Ohio Penitentiary around 3 am. They worked as night nurses in the hospital and cut through the kitchen roof to reach the tobacco room roof, then descended via a rope formed from bandages. Guards spotted the roof hole as the escape began. The pair vanished as daylight came. Hill's term began in March and Davis, a U S prisoner, was jailed for post office robbery at Barnesville.
Kansas City July 22 special police officer Henry Call janitor at Benton school arrested Lee White a negro thief in the act of carrying a sack full of stolen property. White drew a long dirk knife and stabbed the officer twice in the chest. Other officers pursued and captured him near the peeking news house. The victim Henry Call is named and reported as possibly surviving the night.
Special telegram from New York reports Laurie Dillon visiting Chicago to urge an executive meeting for a convention. Four committee members attended and plans indicate a convention will be held without the Sullivan faction siding with changes to the group. John L Sullivan’s presence in Philadelphia failed to influence attendance.
The Knights of Labor grants a charter to the first district assembly in Australia. The new district of five local assemblies has over 500 members, with Powderly urged to head the Australian labor movement. Powderly’s possible trip depends on his duties at home.
Between 600 and 800 carpenters in Kansas City area struck for a nine hour day instead of ten or eleven. The action arose from a union and non union conference last Saturday. About 20 principal contractors agreed to nine hours with proportionate pay, prompting most workers to return next day. A small number of contractors held out, affecting roughly 150 men.
In Philadelphia the leather workers convention closed after 16 days with 40 delegates from the United States and Canada representing over 18 000 tanners driers morocco dressers and related trades. They aimed to adopt a plan to equalize wages for the same work across the country noting New York and Pennsylvania paid the worst while porkers received the best pay. East bound deliveries of flour grain and provisions by Central Traffic Association roads last week totaled 18 149 tons, up from 16 233 tons the prior week and 13 903 tons a year ago. The gains include increases for several routes and regions within the network.

Will Brown son of Samuel Brown of Pittsburg dies in Princeton at age, after a three week marriage. He formerly worked as an engineer on the Ohio Valley Railroad and was recently promoted to passenger conductor. His father Samuel Brown accompanied him.
Special telegram from Kanab Utah reports Denver Colorado and Pacific Railroad president Frank M. Brown drowned July 10 in Marble Canon Colorado River when a boat capsized while running rapids. Five days later two boatmen died when a second boat capsized near a cliff while pushing it off.
Charles Cochran, a 13-year-old from Steubenville and brother of Thea Cochran, died while bathing in the Ohio River. Rescue data was recovered within an hour. The incident occurred July 2 and involves Mansfield shoe merchant and horseman Charles Cochran.
The schooner Alpha arrived at French Village from the Banks leaking badly. A swordfish punctured a plank and left a fragment still through the ship as the crew reported the incident.
Jersey City reports an educated Englishman known as Lord Lenox, 50, from the Hoffman House, was arrested for intoxication in Hoboken. He spent the night in a cell awaiting further handling.
