Will of General Cameron probate lands and large bequests

The will of the late General Simon Cameron was admitted to probate in Harrisburg. Executors include Wayne McVeagh and J. Montgomery Forster. The estate, worth about 1.7 million dollars, places the Donegal estate to Senator Cameron with future transfer to his son James McCormick Cameron, while other bequests fund hospitals, churches, and family trusts. The will, dated October 2, 1886 with a 1889 codicil, specifies numerous legacies including property and cash to relatives and institutions.

Prohibition Group Forms League Says No License Judge

The Prohibitory Amendment Association in Greensburg met at the Court House to consider nominating a President Judge for both districts. John D. Gill was named chairman in Speigel's absence and the group planned to seek views from McConnell and Doty before naming a candidate. The convention then named J R Spiegel as their candidate, with Zweifel illness clouding his acceptance. Rev Howard Wilson of Mt. Pleasant was elected to head the temperance committee amid ongoing debates.

Government sets committee size on royal marriage allowances

In the House of Commons Sir W H Smith moved to make the Allowances Committee for Prince Albert Victor and Princess Victoria 23 members. Dillwyn proposed 25 with no Radicals. Smith urged fair representation. Gladstone supported Smiths plan. Bradlaugh opposed Dillwyns amendment. Dillwyns amendment defeated 105 to 0.

Deserted camp and skirmish near Wady Halfa

Advices report Colonel Wodehouse's cavalry finding an enemy camp deserted save for dying civilians. A picket from the Sinth battalion was killed, and no reinforcements had yet passed Wady Halfa. Egyptian forces reached Aden last night and engaged near the bank as Dervishes fought for water, suffering heavy losses alongside Egyptians.
