Coroner Probes Death Of Lightweight Pugilist Brennan
The coroner's inquest in Curiaco examined Billy Brennan's death after a sparring match with Frank Garrard. Testimony described a fifth round collapse and a head injury from striking the platform, with the physician citing brain and lung hemorrhages. Garrard claimed the bout was safe and prearranged, while officials noted no hard punches. The jury ruled death from injuries suffered in sparring, and Mayor Cregier barred further sparring in the city.
