Ravensa Oregon July 3 A fast freight crashed into a passenger train near the Kent depot, igniting a two hour blaze. Nineteen bodies mangled and burned, including one woman with an infant, were recovered as coroner’s team sought identification. Crew names and hospital scenes described amid frantic rescue efforts.
Ravexxa July 3 A revised list shows the carnage from the Erie No 8 wreck. Victims from Corning N Y include Henry Gildea John McAvoy Patrick Ryan and others while a Pullman sleeper adds more dead and injured. The Thunderbolt is a fast eastbound solid vestibule train with multiple coaches Pullmans and dining car operations.
A July 3 Ravenna dispatch reports conductor W H Young of Meadville saying the flagman was not out far enough, leading to a freight train derailing on a steep grade. Cars Warsaw Ascoli wrecked. Agcoli damaged. losses near 100000 dollars. An inquest began at Ravenna Court House with about 12 witnesses. strict Erie system rules to be enforced.
In a Corning to Corning line wreck Tom Hanley describes a miraculous escape from a deadly rear car. He recalls a night of screams as fire consumed passengers, with four workers crushed by the freight engine boiler and others left to be rescued or hidden from view.
Albert Smith of Corning recounts a passenger train wreck where flames burst from cars, his leg broken, and several companions perished in the fire. Minister Douglass says 50 to 75 rebels seized the prison, were dispersed by Hippolyte's troops within about half an hour, and that several leaders and others were executed. SPECIAL TELEGRAM TO THE DISPATCH. PHILADELPHIA July 3 Speaker C. C. Thompson of Warren arrives after Warren County Republican Convention endorsed him for State Treasurer. He says he made no deals and will only win on his own merit, and that party should not bear responsibility for others' misfortunes. He notes agricultural centers will shape state affairs and be heard this year.
Four drunken tramps who alighted from an Erie train at Greycourt terrorized residents in Greycourt and Chester. A posse of about 50 men led by a Chester justice chased them out of town, and one tramp was shot in the leg during pursuit. They were arrested on vagrancy and disorderly conduct charges.
Carcaco July 3 notes the abroad trip of John C. Black for health causes confusion with two Chicago figures named John C. Black. One is General John C. Black the lawyer, active in pension matters, while the other is John C. Black the bank president.
In Chicago the post office struggles with mail confusion between two John C Blacks. One is General John Biorin or similar title, the other banker John Black. A compromise directs General John Black letters to his firm Black & Goodwin care, while plain John Black receives his banker mail.
Berlin wholesale and retail coal oil dealers see Standard Oil's absorption of importing firms as a step toward dominating Germany's jobbing and retail oil trade. They predict prices will fall, Rothschilds yield, and American control reach Europe west of the Russian frontier. Trade leaders warn reforms will prove temporary and ineffectual.

Construction must start within five years and finish within ten, with promoters including several American financiers. Similar action may be sought from New York authorities. Sixteen hundred miners joined a district strike in Peoria on July 3. The 50 railroad mines and remaining private operators have coal stock, insulating them for about 60 days. No cause is given beyond solidarity with other strikes, and miners expect to stay out only until Monday.

Nashville July 3 George Stone who was to be hanged at Fayetteville Tennessee next Friday for murder has been red by Governor Buchanan until October.
The steamer Maipo docked at Iquique today delivering a complete cargo of arms for the Congressional party amid Chilean insurgent tensions.
United States Deputy Marshal Devine arrested J C Newell, clerk of the Fraternity of Finance Co operation, on charges of using the mails for fraud. Sup Officers Hughes Lukens and Dolmier of Philadelphia are sought. The group allegedly swindled thousands nationwide, taking over $1,000,000 in three months, with officers selling supplies to a junk dealer and fleeing. Evidence includes letters from victims and large bank deposits showing profits of the scheme.
Philadelphia July 3. A large body of Poles advancing a movement for a Polish Papal Vicar or Polish Bishop in the United States plans to send six delegates to Rome this month to pursue the effort and address Polish welfare here.
Ella Staley, about 24, living at 264 Robinson Street Allegheny, drank carbolic acid last evening in her room. She collapsed, lay unconscious, and despite restoratives by Dr G A Mueller her condition remained critical. A strong odor and a discarded bottle indicate the poisoning. no motive was found and she was to attend a picnic at Aliquippa today. The girl had been staying with Mrs McMichaels for six weeks. origin and home are unknown.
Gertie Wagner, 20, of Braddock is missing after leaving her uncle F J Wagner’s home around 9 pm. The disappearance, kept secret by relatives and friends, follows her leaving a store and retiring from a party, with no trace since. No lover reported.
rumors sweep Chester that Wellman Iron and Steel of South Chester has secured stock in Reach Shipbuilding and plans to use the yard with their works. President Wellman denies knowledge of such a venture. About 300 men work at the yard, far fewer than Roach era highs. John B. predicts closing rather than taking government work.
Exe July 3 The Erie County Farmers' Alliance and Industrial Union met at Lake Pleasant and resolutions endorsed Giles Price of Erie for Auditor General. The Industrial Union pledged its votes and support if nominated. The alliance opposed liquor licenses and the liquor element.
Chicago July 3 The control of the Knapp Stout & Co lumber enterprises employing 6000 to 7000 men is reported to remain in America. A new company Kasve ee Testes Sem is organized with existing Casgeuens retained. A portion of the stock is to be open to sale. Shares amounting to 6000000 will be issued. All bonds and 000 of the stock are taken leaving open 3000000.
The Waterways Commission met in Nashville to survey a canal route joining Cumberland. An outfit estimate of 50 units and 40 for field work was prepared and will be funded. Governor Bulkely approved immediate commencement of the project.
The District Council declares the carpenters walkout off after nine weeks. Bosses press demands and don't grant a half holiday. Most workers return Monday under contractor rules, with local unions unable to mobilize funds or sustained support.
