Died in Harness Friend of Marshal McMahon
The Very Rev Joseph Strub aged about 60 died at Holy Ghost College on Bluff Street after eight days illness. A native of Alsace he joined the Society of the Holy Ghost in 1856 and served in Dakar, Marienthal, and the United States. He was chaplain general to French prisoners in the Franco Prussian War and later Provincial of the German and then American Holy Ghost communities. He directed the Catholic College on Wilie Avenue and Blof Street, with a long record of missionary work and charity.
