Probate filings reveal two Hammerfahr wills

Attorney Friedman filed for probate on a will dated January 1, 1890 leaving 1000 dollars to Evangelical Protestant Orphan Asylum West Liberty 100 dollars to German Catholic Orphan Asylum Southside and 100 dollars to Passavant Hospital with remainder to Amelia Hammerfahr. A second will from 1847 with identical provisions was later withdrawn after interoffice dispute. The conflicting dates expose a law on voidable bequests made within days of death.
