Consolidated Lines See Higher Daytime Use Under New Management
The first day of consolidated traction on the Duquesne and Fifth Avenue lines showed Duquesne carrying about 33 000 passengers and $1 675 in receipts while the Fifth Avenue logged just over $1 000. All night cars ran 12:30 to 5 a m with about $80 in fares and $14 in expenses, netting roughly $62 profit. Duquesne’s daily receipts remained higher than the cable road, and officials attributed gains to fare parity. New dispatcher Eric Dowell said schedules would be refined after initial trials, aiming to improve service and reduce through cars on the Duquesne while maintaining convenience.
