A telegram reports a railroad journey with brief stops at every station until Greenfield and a longer pause at Knightstown to allow 500 orphans from a Soldiers Orphans' Asylum to see General Harrison. He appeared briefly on a platform, but could not give a speech due to time.
A crowded station scene unfolds as crowds greet General Harrison aboard the inaugural train. Dennison C February 26 The inaugural train traveled from xe ark to Dennison in an hour and a half, the train then 30 minutes late.

Porter Adolphus Crury stays awake guarding the scene as the depot is locked after midnight to prevent delays. Security teams and gas-well rumors swirl while dispatchers monitor the route ahead of the presidential party.
A February farewell banquet honored Vice President-elect Levi P. Morton before his departure to Washington. Merchant John F. Plummer hosted the event, marking a notable social gesture as the nation prepared for the new administration.
A deadly blast at the John R Powell squib factory on Welsh Hill near Plymouth killed ten female workers and left foreman George Reese fatally burned. Officials say the cause is unknown and only one body could be identified, amid scenes of collective grief as rescue efforts recovered the charred remains from the ruins.
An early factory mine blast killed seven women workers and injured several as powder charges stored in a magazine ignited. The front of the building blew out and the roof collapsed. bodies were found clustered as the blast and ensuing fire swept the site.
Joseph Bento a Portuguese cook on a whaling ship who killed a sailor in self defense in 1864 was pardoned by President Cleveland and freed after 25 years in States prison. The case was aided by Sergio P. Smith and Attorney Harrington, with commutation granted by Lincoln. Bento plans to seek relatives in Galicia and sail to New Bedford to find countrymen.
In Columaus Ohio on February 2 the Church divorce case resumed. Colonel SH Church denied misconduct with Theresa the servant girl and said he never met her outside the house. He described her as good looking but not unusually attractive and defended keeping her to avoid injustice to an innocent girl. Theresa had worked at his mother's Oak Street residence and is expected to testify next.
In Richmond on February 25 a church wedding of colored society occurred at Rev. John Jasper’s church. Five bridesmaids’ lamps went out and they were expelled to stand outside as the five illuminated virgins escorted the groom up the aisle while the choir sang Behold the Bridegroom Cometh.
Emil Bach, a Peoria street car driver, shot Anna DuBois in her father’s Matamora home after entering through a window. The suitor had been rejected and planned to marry another man. Bach fled. the girl, shot in the mouth, remains alive but unlikely to recover.
Morrisburg's city government in a special telegram from Haversburg reports John E. Patterson Democrat elected City Solicitor, replacing Judge Hargest Republican who had held the post for 14 years. Patterson won a majority in both the Select Council and the joint body after an attempted meeting. Four Republicans joined Democrats in voting for Patterson, while Hargest contests legality and may claim to hold over.
In Lospon February 23 Mr John Morley opened a broad attack on government Irish policy in the House of Commons. He condemned arrests and police actions in Ireland including the Father McFadden case, urged leniency for imprisoned MPs, and warned of widespread public demand for a monarchic remedy. Balfour defended government course amid cries of Pigott and Times references, insisting arrests were lawful and criticizing the opposition.
New York reports ex-Senator Thomas C. Platt will not attend the Washington gathering shaping Harrison’s cabinet. Discontented factions, including Miller and Elkins allies, anticipate New York gain, with talk of three vacancies in Navy, Attorney General, and Agriculture. Strong belief persists that New York will secure representation despite official completion notices.
New York reports a bet between Arkell and Russell Harrison over Indiana carrying. Harrison will receive a $100 opera hat, crafted under Knox with silk from John D Cutter mill. Hat features Judge’s oil portrait, Peach brandy goblet, and flowered interior. Harrison plans to wear it on Inauguration Day and later display it.
Elder W G Raymond leads about 50 followers in waterproof attire to baptize five converts in icy New York Bay at Cadmus dock Pamrapo shore Hudson County. Participants include Mrs Nethe Fisk Jessie Sherman Theresa Tier George H Vincent and Mary E Vincent. The group praises, sings to conclude, and plans further baptisms next Sunday.
Special Cable from Philadelphia reports Mrs. Parnell received a message stating Charles Stewart Parnell is not critically ill and unlikely to collapse. The Irish leader’s mother doubted rumors, and the physician confirmed his good condition as she planned to return to Bordentown.
A Telegram from Towa City reports Mayor John J. Holmes shot himself in the head last night and died this morning. Holmes, a longtime local political figure, had suffered a brain ailment for several months. He was found in his barn with a bullet wound to the temple after family searches.
New York February 25 A meeting of the Electrical Subway Commission saw Mayor Grant push through an order to remove all overhead wires on Broadway within 30 days and the poles after that period. He pursues a strong campaign against overhead lines despite substantial opposition.
Des Marxes February 25 The trial of Governor Larrabee for criminal libel ended this afternoon No argument was deemed necessary by the Governor s attorneys in his defense At a late hour this evening the jury wore still out.
Baltimore and Ohio and Reading Railroad announce an arrangement effective March 10 to run salvage Baltimore to New York trains within six hours. Initial plan used the Twenty-fourth Street depot with Schuylkill crossing, later direct track from Fourth Street to main line will cut delays.
Chicago February 25. Herald to print article showing crest Burlington strike begun last February remains unsettled. Brotherhood planned steps to press for a back-to-work agreement with engineers and firemen. Burlington officials agreed to reinstate many strikers by February 1. Chairman Kk H. Cargener and committee members met with strike leaders seeking settlement.
