Miss Mary Donovan of Pittsburg leaped from a Lake Shore train as it entered Erie. She seized her baggage and fled a coach before the brakeman intervened, was hurled from the cars, and left in near death. She later regained consciousness and is at Humot Hospital.

The Theodore Mithoff gas well near Lancaster Ohio was drilled seven feet deeper into the gas rock, nearly doubling its output. The flow is estimated between 15 and 20 million cubic feet per day and crowds gathered as drillers Stretton and Kee call it the greatest well in the country. Plans to pack and light it for exhibition by night raise concerns of property damage from accidental ignition in the city center.
A mob from Vicksburg seized Wesley Thomas on a southbound train using pistols and carried him toward Vicksburg, reportedly lynching him near the Big Black swamps. Thomas had attacked a young woman in Vicksburg the prior Wednesday.
