May Festival at Pittsburg garners strong patronage and plans
Reports on Pittsburg's May Music Festival of 1891 show robust fashionable and financial backing. Mrs. Retter’s campaign gathers Pittsburgh’s leading women of culture and wealth to secure 10 boxes at 10 a year, with many patronesses enlisted. Rehearsals begin for the May program featuring Haydn mass and Wagner pieces, while Parisian music notes and reviews accompany the festival coverage.
