Beer at a Church Dedication Ignites Liquor Case
Alderman McGaver’s office heard a charge against Charles Lick for selling liquor on Sunday during a South Side church dedication attended by many Poles. Witnesses testified that beer was consumed in the church vicinity after the ceremony, not paid for on the spot. The defense argued no illegal gift occurred, while the crowd voiced nationalist concern over perceived rights erosion. The defendant posted 500 bail for a later court hearing.
