Eastern Dealers Contract Large Apple Shipments Along the Hiver

Eastern buyers from the north and east have begun contracting for tens of thousands of barrels of apples along the Ohio river towns from Wheeling to Pt. Pleasant, with much of the fruit destined for Buffalo Albany and New York markets. The river counties of Ohio and West Virginia are a major apple area shipping 100000 to 150000 barrels annually to the South West and overseas. The New Jersey New York state crop is reported short, while the watermelon crop along the river counties is also poor causing growers to reduce shipments from 6000-10000 per season to far less, with many patches failing completely.
