Box Car Burglars Crack Down In West Virginia

West Virginia officers search the state for the Cooleys after a New Castle trio from the Pittsburg and Western are arrested on burglary charges. Marion Stark engineer, S. C Hardy baggagemaster, and William McMahon yardmaster were accused of entering a Pittsburg and Western freight car around July 4 and stealing 63 bottles of whisky and a case of cigars. The whisky was headed to Fitch McConneill and Phipps. cigars to R Goldberg of Youngstown. They pleaded not guilty. hearings set with $500 bail each.

Braddock Braces for Track Lifting and Arrests

In Braddock on August 17 Judge McCrong denies a preliminary injunction to stop the borough from lifting Braddock Electric Railway tracks on Kiehth street and Braddock avenue, ordering work to proceed. Fourteen workers, including Superintendent Ellis, were fined $10 and costs for interfering with borough crews. A man named George Hocker, found with stolen items and trousers from Squire Crawford, was jailed after Constable Best recovered a horse and buggy linked to a theft from the Presbyterian church jail at Washington. Arthur Cooper, 20, son of former Braddock clerk John H. Cooper, died in a Homestead Steel Works accident. his remains arrive tonight.

Fourteen year old jail escapee from New Castle jail

William Custer aged 13 escaped from the New Castle jail while the turnkey dinner break was happening. He says he left to bathe, claimed two locks were picked with a bent gas pipe. He asserts other prisoners had a wooden key but balked at leaving. Custer had pleaded guilty to two burglaries and was recaptured after around five this evening.

Stricken Deaf While Bathing in River

New Castle August 17 Special Balto Catigan age about 12 in Greenville Mercer county will likely be deaf. A day or two ago he was in the Shenango river bathing with other boys. While diving one companion cracked two stones together under water causing a concussion. In a few minutes the boy complained of ear pain and within 24 hours could not hear except loud tones. Doctors think the drum of the ear is broken. Contable Remanded for Trial Greensburg August 17 Special David Blansett borough constable who shot a Hungarian coworker at Calumet a few weeks ago while attempting to make an arrest was remanded to jail after a habeas corpus hearing. Hungarians testified Blansett was drunk and fired upon the Hun without cause.

Mercantons Aug 17 Charles Blair held on $1000 bail to answer indictment for burning pant owned by Manufacturing Company. He was drinking night of fire and slept near building. Will iam Burkell injured when hook fastens around neck while working in iron and steel works. He was rescued before being drawn through rolls. Officials hunt Cooleys reported seen at eterniry evening pressing rack to Coketon. George Harvey 22, killed himself in Lima by shooting.

Man Found Dead in Vacant Lot After Visit to Grandfather

A man visiting his grandfather from Chicago was found dead in a vacant lot. He told family of marital trouble and planned to move to escape certain influences. He left a note to his mother saying he was tired of life.

Debtor Surrenders Gold Watch Once Belonging to Extra Billy Smith
