In West Guthrie an election produced James Dooley of Iowa as mayor with a full council slate. Provisional police justice was named and surveyors were appointed to map the town under Kansas laws and Wichita regulations until a charter is secured. The grand jury also indicted Rufus J Martin David Highnight and Robert for altering 31 ballots from John M Clayton to C R Breck in White River ballot box thefts.
The writ in the Jesuits versus Weil case was returned in court with appearances by the defendant. Justice Laflamme acts for the defense which will challenge the incorporation as illegal ultra vires and argue the Pope's authority interferes with Quebec and British Crown power. In St. Jasmin Missouri on April 25 Charles Mowland a leading contractor shot Louis J Colored four times in the chief of police office. Mowland claimed Jackson carried notes to his daughter from an objectionable suitor and Jackson refused to name the sender.
Washington April 25 The Armes court martial reviewed yesterday's record and retired to secret session. It adopted a verdict and adjourned pending action by the Secretary of War and the President on its findings.
April 25 report from Wasnixeton says Secretary Blaine, previously indisposed, is much better this morning yet will not travel to the State Department due to inclement weather. The planned presentation of the new British Minister to the President has been postponed.
