Untonntown April 20 Adjutant General McClelland rejects reports that troops were pulled from Westmoreland county due to a tacit deal with strikers or to halt lawlessness. He clarifies no direct or remote understanding existed regarding the withdrawal of the Tenth and Eighteenth regiments.

Ottawa April 20 The Governor General received a memorial from the British Columbian Legislature asking that the Chinese restriction tax be increased from 50 to 100. The Dominion Government is powerless to stop Chinese from leaving Canada once they have paid the poll tax. The government would not act to block U S border violations by Canadians as a channel for smuggling Chinese, and cannot prevent the Chinese population from leaving the country.
District Attorney William Grant of New Orleans reports delays in his inquiry into the Italians killed last month. He cites difficulty obtaining particulars on their nationality and arrival to the United States, and has asked the Department of Justice for information.
George S. Boone sole remaining descendant of Daniel Boone was arrested by U S authorities and brought for trial on pension fraud charges. He served in the Confederate army while his father was a Union soldier and has allegedly drawn pension for his father while living in a cave on the Des Moines River about 40 miles below the city.
