Judges Ewing and Magee announced 307 licenses in Pittsburg and 107 in Allegheny's first four wards. The liberal outcome follows last year with 646 applications in Pittsburg and 43 licenses. two wards remain prohibitory.
Judges Ewing and Magee spent long hours on Good Friday in Pittsburgh hearing license cases. They reviewed private records, maps, and testimony to decide which applicants from Allegheny wards qualified for hotel liquor licenses, weighing each applicant’s proven record, accommodations, and personal character.
Judges announced that wholesale applications for the first 14 wards of Pittsburg would be heard next Monday. Bets centered on Samuel Bing among individual applicants with some seeking odds.

The Senate Committee on the World's Fair examined the House bill and Daniel's Columbus statue ceremony proposal for October 12 1892. A sub committee was formed to investigate the guaranty fund subscriptions and Mr Gage was to provide certified incorporation papers a list of top subscribers and plan to increase the fund with details on signer responsibility.
Rumor spread among sailors that the American ship A Mc Callum was detained at quarantine with yellow fever aboard. Captain O'Brien was not allowed ashore by order of Dr Heiskill. Three sailors died during the voyage. two later denied to be from yellow fever. All burials were at sea.
Lieutenant Harvey B. Morenus of Walton served in the New York Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. A minie ball lodged near his elbow was carried for 28 years, causing a lump and stiffness before a surgeon removed it after a struck blow released the ball. He is expected to regain full use of the arm.
A tall foreign-looking man registered at the Bolton House as Kolder Shikago and died in his room from apoplexy caused by a brain hemorrhage. Physicians ruled out suicide. A gold watch a revolver and a few dollars were found. a woman and a young man are pictured in a locket. His remains await identification.
A San Francisco paper reports small boats continually ferrying Chinese from Lower California to San Diego and landing at night. The migrants then reach Los Angeles and other cities. Across the past year several hundred Chinamen and Chinese women are believed to have entered California by this route.
Special telegram from Philadelphia reports Italian papers Vesuvio and Festivio attack Giuseppe Carussi as a fraudulently titled Count de Montercoli. Arrested for distributing pamphlets about his wife, formerly Virginia Knox, with allegations of misleading lineage and lack of noble title.
Mary Rebecca Shipley of Staunton Virginia, arrested for shoplifting, was released on five thousand dollars bail. She claims she did not act with criminal intent and the recovered goods will be returned to store owners. Detectives completed restitution and expected no further prosecution.
Sheriff Krider brings prisoners to the penitentiary at Union depot when two escape the crowd. Kelly is captured after a long chase while Sam H. Landis remains at large. Landis, a one year man for burglary, is a railroad worker with a Pennsylvania family.
Anthony Thomas a colored man who killed Miss Lelia Loftin in Smith county faced a preliminary trial at Polkville today and was held for murder. Because the Smith county area is considered unsafe he was committed to the Brandon jail for gun shooting and militia were sent back to Jackson.
In Rinzan peasants lash Mordvinoff and stone police in retaliation for ongoing outrages. The Czar expresses deep concern upon hearing the report from St. Petersburg dated April 4.
