Avon New York March 30 Miss Louisa Rempth a New York area missionary from the Methodist Protestant Church died in India while leading an evening prayer service a kerosene lamp spilled burning her causing fatal injuries. Her adopted native ward was later killed by a cobra bite and her charred remains were buried beside her protector. Her aging mother in Alton is the sole surviving relative.
A creditors meeting at the Continental Hotel in Philadelphia aimed to resolve the firm’s financial distress. Colonel J. B. Townsread described assets including plant, works, and real estate valued at 470,000 plus two-thirds interest in Ejgre An opposite square worth 000, with total assets 555,240 against liabilities. Washington March 31 The defense in the Kincaid trial concentrates on proving Taulbee issued threats to Kincaid and those threats reached the defendant. Several witnesses testified to Kincaid’s peaceful reputation while others said Taulbee warned him to be armed. Some witnesses recalled Taulbee making the warning on the day of the shooting.
