The Outlook announces its third volume with a twelve page feature on Pinehurst describing the village and its healthful winter climate. It invites readers to visit before pneumonia season and suggests spending Christmas amid holly and mistletoe while enjoying golf and pine wood air.
Pinehurst Vocal Studio will open soon under Mr A N St Clair. The program uses the Lamperti method from Milan Italy focused on breath control placement and vocal production. Pupils may prepare for church concert or opera using nature’s freedom of the voice.
A Boston resident, Thomas B. Jones, writes from Asheville that he will stay in his Holly Inn room at Pinehurst after an arrangement with Mr. Tufts. He notes he is awaiting door access and recalls Holly Inn and Pinehurst fondly. A letter from Roxbury, Massachusetts, dated Oct 16, 1899, also praises Pinehurst experiences, weather, care, and the transplanted village setting, ending with warm regards from W. P. Bowies, M.D.
Pinehurst plans attract sportsmen with Fox hounds and bird dogs. J H Huffstickler keeps twelve trained fox hounds and has captured sixteen foxes this fall. Guides and dog support will be available for guests. Highland area hosts hunting camps led by H T Powell Aberdeen with hunts, mine suppers, and barbecues. Trap shooting also features with a club house and expert traps near the village for Northern guests.
Mr D Benbow, village superintendent, works with forethought to finish improvements and anticipate winter residents’ needs, a key reason for his popularity among Northern guests.
Rates start at 4.00 per day and 21.00 per week. The season features a grand hotel with 250 richly furnished rooms including 49 suites with baths. Steam heat open fireplaces electric lights water from Pinehurst Springs and a first class orchestra led by Mr Trev Sharp. Cuisine and service praised.
H W Priest served six years as manager of properties including the Highland Park Motel in Aiken South Carolina the Magnolia Hotel in Magnolia Massachusetts the Pine Forest Inn in Summerville DC and the Preston Hotel in Beach Bluff Massachusetts.
