A bustling summer of 1922 brings bold changes in Pinehurst as wooden structures yield to brick blocks and a new Market Street rises from Dogwood to Magnolia. New shops, apartments, and a theater replace landmarks, with Embury's brick blocks housing Clow jewelry, Conant shoes, Mason offices, Fuller’s Clifton Chambers, and a planned open square linking Chinquapin Road, Bank of Pinehurst, and Newcomb offices. The Pinehurst Theater joins the scene as repairs and reorganizations broaden retail and civic life.
