Billiard Champion Foss Draws Crowds At The Carolina
W P Foss of Haverstraw NY, longtime US amateur billiard champion and top national figure, visited The Carolina. He placed second in the Paris international championship to M Revolo by a narrow margin, after three nights of play, while also sharing friendly matches with E B Wardwell of Camden ME. Foss, a successful businessman and mayor, is praised for speed, precision, and cue control using cushions, and the piece notes broad interest in billiards and golf spectator culture with contrasting views on competitive play.
