The Second Annual Midwinter Tournament nears completion with the thirty six hole finals. The field is the largest and most representative yet, featuring many notable players including British champion Travis and W. C. Fownes Jr. The Travis Fownes match is the day's centerpiece drawing a large gallery despite the light crowds around the clubhouse.
Guests at The Magnolia include J. E. Kellogg of Fitchburg and Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Oldring of Brooklyn. The Oldrings are spending their first season here. An old fashioned spelling match organized by Mrs. M. A Crockett of Buffalo proved a novel feature at The Harvard Thursday evening with hotel guests and villagers joining in. Sides were picked by Miss Check of East Orange and Miss Priest of Beach Bluff. Dr. Crockett and Mrs. E. J. Underhill presided as the final matchup determined the winner.
A local event notes a “Decrafts and Lif” session followed by tea at the casino on Monday. Details on speakers or topics are limited in the available text.
Miss Maud Summers of Boston will lecture on Handi crafts and Life in the Casino dining room Monday afternoon at 2:30. Tea will follow in the Library and Handicraft rooms hosted by Mrs Burgess Mrs Tufts and Mrs Cot on.
The Advertising Men's International Golf Tournament spurred the formation of a permanent group named the American Golf Association of Advertising Interests to hold annual events. Fifty five entrants become charter members with a board led by Frank Presbrey of New York and others from New York Philadelphia Milwaukee Chicago and New Haven. The association aims to include agents and general advertisers and signals Pinehurst as a future annual visitor with a possible summer contest.
Union services will be held in The Village hall tomorrow at 11 15. Mr and Mrs Hervey will sing a duet Eve Since by Faith and the offertory will be rendered by Miss Cator Dream of Paradise. The subject of the sermon will be Standards True and False. All are welcome.
