In Pinehurst the nurseries cover about seventy five acres growing flowers shrubs vines and trees for hotels cottages and parks. James W. Tufts founded them in 1895 to supply Vinehurst and Otto Katzenstein now manages a thriving enterprise famed for Abies Arizonica Argentea the silver cork fir sold at three dollars per tree with seed at two fifty per ounce. New greenhouses 160 by 23 feet heat with hot water and extensive irrigation support winter garden production.
