Seventy One Counted At Troy Team Ride
An 1898 account describes a sportive day from Pea Pinehurst to Troy with youths hosting a luncheon, fatigue after a long ride, and a final tally of seventy one, amid playful mischief and a reverse error by a maid. The piece blends rustic imagery with local color and a sense of community activity.

The family are well known residents of Lynn Massachusetts. Frank Mooney of Bridgeport Connecticut, a friend of Capt Couch, visited our village during the week. Mooney was tax collector for Bridgeport for years. Herbert L Legg and wife of Boston arrived last Sunday and will live at the Palmetto for the winter. Legg is the Holly Inn stenographer and his services are available to guests at reasonable rates. Dr Parvels and Judge Metzzer drove to Carthage the county seat recently claiming invalids from Pinehurst. They were told they were heavy capitalists from the North seeking investments. If the judge stays a few weeks longer he will be the healthiest man in the county.
