Donald Ross suffers a defeat in a well played professional match as Nicholls claims victory two up. The contest showcased steady technique and clutch putts through the back nine, securing a narrow edge over Ross.
The season opener on Pinehurst links saw Donald J. Ross of Pinehurst and Bernard Nicholls of Boston compete for a $100 purse in ideal weather. Ross led 1 up after 18 in the morning but Nicholls won by two up with one to play after a strong back nine.
The Holly Inn notes record a February card party with elegant Starr's silver prizes for the top ladies and gentlemen, awarded to Miss Smith, Mrs. Maurice, Mr. Chanley, and Mr. Gray. Ice cream and cake were served by Mr. Hyde, and a hop ended the evening. Ping Pong is now popular among guests with tournaments featuring Adams, Butler, Kinney, and Bancroft.
On Feb 18 the Seaboard Air Line will inaugurate a line of sleepers between Jacksonville Florida and Old Point Comfort via Richmond passing through Pinehurst Passengers bound for Richmond may remain in the car until 8 am.
