Giant Yadkin power project spawns new industrial boom
A vast aluminum reduction plant will rise near The Narrows on the Yadkin River west of Montgomery County. A dam to create about 100,000 horsepower will drive an extensive electric complex. The Whitney failure led to a larger, more ambitious dam plan that dwarfs earlier investments and promises a major power economy for the region.
