Santa Claus Supremely Delivers Gifts at City Tree
The Christmas program centered on a Santa Claus who, despite a mutinous gander, distributed toys and candy to both white and colored children. Miss Sanborn received encyclopedias to aid information desks, while Dorothy Jones gleefully towed a toy cart down the aisle. Uncle Demus and other seniors were greeted with applause. Santa, Dr. George Sumner Hill, departed up the chimney as music closed the event. An evening for colored children featured rattles, reins, oranges, and gifts, with remarks on education from Principal Persons of the Dickinson school.
