Willie spends a day racing with his shadow that follows him everywhere. The shadow mimics his movements and seems to anticipate his actions, sometimes elongating or shrinking as the sun changes. In the evening the shadow fades when Willie runs behind the house, leaving him puzzled by the rubbery, shifting figure.
Willie and his companion recount a nocturnal journey of a shadow traveling the world. The shadow explains roaming the sky, dodging dangers, meeting people in exotic dress, and evading cattle that trample him. After wandering a prairie and dense jungle, the shadow becomes lost in a tropical forest.
