Cup Candles of the East Side Heritage Craft
On the east side a quaint industry preserves the Solomon era craft of cup candles. Wicks set in glazed cups or tumblers are bathed in wax, then cooled and trimmed. Glass, silver, and scented wax varieties exist. Orthodox Jewish use marks Fridays and holy days, with scripts from Psalms or Talmud pasted on the outside. Prices and perfumes vary. sacred wax from Jerusalem and Lebanon can be found. An imitation led to a minor riot before the dealer escaped.
