Anton Rubinstein rose from child prodigy to celebrated pianist composer and educator. Born near Dubossary he studied in Moscow and Paris then toured Europe and the United States. A staunch advocate for high art he warned against pandering to the masses and died November 20 1894 at Peterhoff near St Petersburg.
