First Day's Play Opens Pinehurst Championship
In ideal weather the second annual Pinehurst tournament began with 28 players in the handicap round. M. Barnes of New York City and New Haven Golf Club won the cup for best gross with 162 for 36 holes, while J. E. Rumbaugh of Swannanoa Country Club Asheville NC won the best net with 164. The first sixteen players listed qualified for the championship. The following scores are given.

The final day of the Pinehurst golf tourney crowned C B Cory champion with E A Thomson as runner up. The event featured close contests and a high level of play with detailed prize lists and driving and putting results. Cory, a prominent amateur from Oakley Boston Garden City and Palm Beach clubs, proved dominant in the championship semifinals and final, winning 3 up with one to go on the 17th before the course was played out.
