Philadelphia veteran Mrs. Roland Barlow defended her title in the United North and South women’s tournament, edging Mrs. J R Price in a nerve racking 18 hole final by par on the last two holes. Price fought from two down after seven, then surged to lead at times before Barlow clinched it on the eighteenth with a pair of pars.
The field of top women golfers gathered at Pinehurst for the North and South medal qualifying round. Dorothy Campbell Hurd led with an 84, narrowly beating Mrs. Roland H. Barlow who posted 85 after a costly six on the eighth hole. M. J. Scammel finished third at 91, with Mason Phelps and G. W. Roope next at 95, and E. R. Behrend at 96. Barlow challenged throughout but Hurd held the edge.
