Easley High opens with 318 pupils and strong prospects
Easley South Carolina September 17 The Easley High School opened September 11 with 318 pupils enrolled. New superintendent Prof W W Benson led chapel as Rev E V Babb Dr R F Smith Rev D W Hiatt and others spoke. Two new teachers Miss Helen Thomas and Miss Floride Davis join a staff led by Benson with grades 9 10 under his supervision.

Death claims Viola Moore in private sanitarium
Miss Viola Moore aged 22 died Wednesday night at a private sanitarium. She leaves her mother Mary K. Moore two sisters Mrs E W Hardy and Mrs Gantt and one brother D G Moore. Body to Greenberg and Bond chapel then to Pickens for funeral and interment. The funeral was held Friday afternoon with pastors Rev D W Hiatt and Rev G F Kirby officiating.

Pickens School Opens With Strong Enrollment and Praise
Pickens Graded School opened with an unusually large attendance of 236 on the first day. Prof. J. W. Ballentine leads as superintendent as teachers Miss McDonald Miss Robinson Miss Russell Miss Miller and Miss Vesta Ashmore begin the new term amid high hopes for a successful session and community welcome. The program featured readings prayers songs and addresses focusing on preparation and school life. Some book exchange issues arose due to State Board changes prompting calls to extend book adoption cycles.

Virginia outlaw leaders captured in Des Moines
Sidna Allen, leader of the Allen clan, and his nephew Wesley Edwards, linked to the Hillsville Virginia court house shooting that killed Judge Massie, were arrested by Des Moines detectives on September 14. They had used assumed names since April and were traced after a failed letter and a visit Edwards made to fiancée Maude Iroler.
