State Board approves school book depositories plan in detail
The State Board of Examiners agreed on a plan to establish school book depositories in every town and place, buying all books for public schools and selling at near wholesale prices. Private dealers may still operate if they match terms, with a proposed ten percent handling cost and no full monopoly. Mayfield argues the plan will lower costs and benefit public education, citing Clemson College savings as proof.
