The Pickens Red Cross auxiliary organizes a Sept 18 picnic at the courthouse for the seventy two young men leaving next week to join the army. Prominent speakers include Chairman Mann and J P Carey Sr with patriotic music, a noon dinner, and a daylong program inviting all citizens to attend and support the draft’d men.
Announcement urges Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton Connie Maxwell in Greenwood and Epworth in Columbia to mark Saturday October 13 as a Work Day for orphan children. Friends are asked to devote the day’s income or labor proceeds as contributions to the orphans. The plan has several years of successful use and aims to attract many supporters.
Liberty township will hold a singing convention at the Alice Mill Church on the third Sunday in September 1917. All singers and music lovers are invited to attend and bring song books. The event begins at 10 a.m. C E B Rocers, President.

Rev. Frank Farrer formerly of this county and Rev. Clarence Tener lead a Texas group of singers including Mrs. Farmer pianist and Mrs Tener alto and Knox Jones guitar picker and tenor. They begin a tent meeting at the old Twelve Mile campground Wednesday night September 12 with an open invitation to all.
An invitation announces a patriotic celebration in Pickens on Tuesday September 18 to honor Pickens County soldiers going to battle to maintain the rights of the country.
Addresses by prominent speakers and patriotic music by a brass band mark the day. A community rally invites attendees to bring well-filled baskets and show support for the boys, with organizers urging participation in the grove near the courthouse.
The full term of court for Pickens county will convene the fourth Monday in September. Judge T. H. Spain is slated to preside and a list of petit jurors drawn to serve accompanies the notice.

Mr. Harry Barnum and Miss Hasty Graham wed with magistrate W. S. Gantt officiating near Calhoun. The ceremony drew best wishes from many friends as the couple begins their life together.
The union of Mr. Samuel Howard and Miss Rosa Sentell was performed at the officiating officer's residence in Liberty on the fourth instant. Alonzo Brown, N.P., reported the ceremony.
