Reorganization completes the Richmond Terminal merger into Southern Railway
The Richmond Terminal system is formally merged into the Southern Railway Company on Sept. 1, consolidating 4,500 miles of railroad and 160 miles of water lines under one management. The plan eliminates dozens of separate companies and boards, creating a unified network from Alexandria to Augusta and Louisville to Savannah with extensive coal, iron, and cotton interests and new bond issuance to fund equipment and upgrades.
